UNITY OF GAITHERSBURG

Spiritual Enrichment:  We value the journey as we explore and discover the connection between our human experience and our spiritual selves.

• I center myself through meditation and prayer.
• I expand my consciousness through participation in spiritual workshops and sacred service.
• I enhance my spiritual development through personal reflection of my life experience.

Inclusivity:  We live in harmony as we value and honor the diversity within our community and in our everyday lives.

• I accept others’ truths.
• I invite open conversation of other ideologies.
• I embrace the divergence of all thought in order to connect as one.

Creative Expression:  We honor the expression of all that is through art, music and the theater.

• Through Spirit, I create a “Joyous Noise” to share with my community.
• I use art as a vehicle to illuminate our Higher Consciousness.
• I support and encourage the artistic talents our community is committed to using as a manifestation of our devotion to Spirit.

Prosperity:  We create and enjoy the abundance of health, wealth and evolving relationships within our community.

• I create spiritually healthy relationships that are grounded in Higher Consciousness.
• I support the church and community by tithing of my time, talents and treasures.
• I am open and receptive to the wisdom of Spirit in all aspects of my life.

Gratitude:  We recognize and appreciate life’s experiences and gifts that promote Spiritual Awareness.

• I live in the now.
• I praise and give thanks to all that is.
• I value and appreciate those who share and co-create in this life with me.

Integrity:  We value honesty and honor truthfulness in our community.

• I live my life based on Unity principles.
• I speak the truth as I see it.
• I live my life with honesty and independence.

Unity’s Five Basic Teachings

There are five basic teachings that make up Unity’s approach to spirituality, the Bible, the teachings of Jesus, and our relationship with God. These teachings are not Creeds or Dogmas but are considered ideas and principles that provide a foundation for growth and awakening to a greater experience of God and God’s will for expanding good in our lives in the world. The teachings are:

First Teaching
God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere.

Second Teaching
We are spiritual beings created in God's image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.

Third Teaching
We create our life experiences through our way of thinking.

Fourth Teaching
There is power in affirmative prayer which we believe increases our connection to God.

Fifth Teaching
Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.
