Methods course for ESL
Activity 1: Two Truths and a Lie: write three things on a card. Two should
be true and one should be untrue. Tell the class and make us guess which is
the lie.
Debriefing on activity:
Discuss how this activity might work as a vocabulary learning activity in an
ESL or FL classroom. Discuss useful aspects/adaptations of activity for a beginning
ESL class/FL class/content ESL class.

TESOL Standards
The organization, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, has
developed a new set of National
Standards for ESL which include five proficiency
levels and standards for content areas of language arts, mathematics, science,
and social studies. The inclusion of content has been in response to the requirements
of No Child Left Behind. For

Activity 2: ESL Standards
Students work in pairs. Choose a content area and level. Find an activity you might us ein your own teaching. Match that activity at your particular level with an academic language function. Report to the group.

Rate yourself on the questionnaire. Choose one area/skill that you would
like to work on this semester. Send me an e-mail describing how you will
demonstrate proficiency in that skill (can be in combination with any other
assignment).

Technology Standards were created with the goal of improving student use
